Shameless plug alert! To celebrate KRTV's 50th anniversary, you can get an autographed copy of Norma Ashby's book "Movie Stars & Rattlesnakes" for only $9.99! It's normally priced at $19.95, but Norma has offered up a discount to celebrate KRTVs 50th birthday.
By the way - this would make a pretty cool Mother's Day gift for a mom who raised her kids here in Montana between the 60s and 90s! And the book is packed with pictures and stories -- Norma has met SO many people in her career, including Bob Hope, Vincent Price, Robert Goulet, Johnny Cash, Olivia DeHavilland, and lots more.
You can buy the book from Amazon.com (like I did about two years ago) for $19.95, OR you can send a check or money-order to us right here at the station - add $6.00 for shipping. Just send your check (and include a mailing address)to:
Movie Stars & Rattlesnakes
c/o KRTV.COM
PO Box 2989
Great Falls, MT 59403
EXTRA: if you put "KRTV.COM" in your request, or mention that you saw this online, take another dollar off your price - only $8.99!
Even better: you can stop by the station (between 8am-5pm, M-F) to pick yours up and save the $6 shipping :-)
Here's some information about Norma and her book (via Amazon):
During the infancy of Montana television, Norma Ashby developed into an institution. She hosted Today in Montana for twenty-four years and built a devoted statewide following a remarkable record! Movie Stars and Rattlesnakes is an even more remarkable story! --Dave Walter, research historian, Montana Historical Society
Norma Ashby has probably met more citizens and interviewed more people than anyone in the history of Montana broadcasting. She has been one of the states most effective promoters. Whenever someone does a poll about influential people in the Treasure State, Ashby rates among the top ten or fifteen and always is near the head of the list of most influential women. --Great Falls Tribune, June 12, 1988
Norma Ashbys sparkle lit up every interview she ever did on ''Today in Montana,'' and now her television encounters gleam again in this jewel box of a book. Thanks to her skills in the tricky art of the on-air interview, Normas is a chronicle of modern Montana like no other. --Ivan Doig, author of ten books, including This House of Sky, English Creek, and, most recently, Prairie Nocturne
Product Description
This lighthearted, fast-paced memoir chronicles Norma's twenty-four years as the host and producer of KRTV's award-winning Today in Montana show, the longest running locally produced program in Montana television history.
This anecdotal history begins in 1962 in a Quonset hut and ends in a million-dollar building. Featuring nearly one hundred photographs, this book takes the reader on a journey that starts with Norma's first frightening minutes in front of the camera and details her unique experiences, including a fire on the set, an interview in the old Montana State Prision's "hole," and an encounter with a twelve-foot python.

Got an e-mail from a viewer who was puzzled over the "shuffling" of anchors; she wrote, "Your morning news/weathercasters disappear without explanation."
Well, there is an explanation - during the holiday season, the on-air anchors and reporters try to schedule their vacation time, and since we only have a handful of on-air folks, there's quite a bit of rotating duty during the holidays.
During the last couple of weeks, for instance, Andrea Fisher took her vacation, so Katie Stukey filled in for her. On Friday, Matt Austin covered the morning show. And both of our sports anchors - Jake and Greg - have been gone for the last few days, so Tim McGonigal (the KRTV news director) has been filling in for them.
The e-mail may also have been referring to the departure of Heidi Schappert, who co-hosted the morning show with Andrea for quite a while. She left KRTV in September to pursue her teaching career; we all miss her - and her lovely British accent! - but are thrilled that Shannon Newth joined the KRTV team to handle morning weather and co-hosting duties!
I know it can be rather disconcerting to tune in and see a familiar face at an unfamiliar time, but we're just juggling our reporters during the holidays. Things should be back to normal once we click over to 2009!
If you missed seeing your birthday announced on the KRTV "Montana This Morning" show, you can check the "MTM" page at KRTV.com, where I have created a photo gallery of screenshots.
This is the first entry on the KBZK blog. Erin is the boss on this blog, even though David had to sneak in to create this test entry. Any future posts you see here will be from Erin!
Two of the biggest stars in children's TV joined the Montana This Morning show today: Elmo and The Cookie Monster! They are in town performing in the stage production of "Elmo Makes Music," and they stopped by KRTV to help Andrea & Shannon with the weather forecast and some dance moves. Great fun!
